Dog shits blood

by Elsa
(Manhattan New York)

Early one morning my 8+ male Schipperke Spider made noises, got up and walked as far from me as he could get and began to shit A LOT (2 cups) of bright red blood, I phoned the nearest vet who was open - Banfield pet hospital - and got him there in 20 minutes.

I was sure he would die. An hour later he walked out of emergency. He had hemorhagic Gastroeneritis and was to be treated for two weeks with heavy duty antibiotics and sucralfate tablets to calm down the effects of the antibiotics.

The vet was not 100% sure of what caused it but among other things it may have been an intestinal fly found in this area.

Two days later Spider was back to normal
