Your Dogs Liver and What You Need to Know

You may not realize it, but the health of your Dogs Liver can result in the length of its life.

Known as man’s best friend, a dog is the number one animal that resides in the human household. This being true, the health of these cute, furry creatures is of concern to most dog lovers. The liver helps to Eliminate Toxins and Strengthen Resistance Against Disease and Infection from the body, digests food and converts it into nutrients like vitamins and minerals for healthy growth. Many liver problems in dogs can begin very early, and having the proper knowledge to prevent it may increase your pups’ life span.

Early Prevention

From the beginning of its life, the most important factor to keep in mind for your pooch is its diet. A healthy blend of nutritious Dog Food includes meat, vegetables, and starches. Whole foods that are organically grown, like peas, carrots, corn, wheat, etc., are just as healthy for animals as they are for humans.

Dog foods with these types of nutrition are much better for your dog than one that is high in protein, though protein is an essential part of a dog’s diet. Read the labels when picking a dog food and remember that it is not always the most expensive food that is the Best Dog Food, but the one with the best nutrients.

Select spring or well water for you’re dog to drink, for it doesn’t hold many of the chemicals that tap water does. Some Toxic Foods are not good for animals like lead, insecticides, iron, and phosphorus.

There are specific foods to also stay away from to prevent liver and other health problems, such as;

  • Chocolate
  • Sugar
  • Red and green peppers
  • Onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Fried or grilled meat
  • Bones
  • Foods with a high fat content

Your dogs overall health contributes to the health of your dog’s liver. Common Dental infections can harm the liver as well as Ear, Skin and other infections. Exposure to chemicals, diseases and drugs can also leave your dogs liver in bad health. Liver disease may be inherited in some breeds like the American and English cocker spaniels, as well as dog breeds with excessive inbreeding.

Signs and Symptoms

There are many things to look out for when trying to catch signs of liver disease or other harmful liver problems.

  • Low energy level
  • No appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Losing weight
  • Jaundice
  • Grey, orange, or yellow stool
  • Frequent urination
  • Increased thirst
  • Swollen stomach
  • Depression
Some of these symptoms can be mistaken for other Common Dog Health Problems like worms or a dental infection. Take your dog to a veterinarian if you see any of these signs occurring.

The early a liver problem is caught the easier it is to cure. Some Dogs Liver dysfunctions can be treated and reversed if found early enough through diet and Regular Exercise. Remember, when caring for your canine, diet is the key. Everything your dog eats will affect its liver function, so the healthier, the better. Stay away from toxic chemicals and other hazardous materials that could harm your pet.

It is best to take your dog to the veterinarian if you see any symptoms because a healthy pet is a happy pet!
