Dog Bark Collars Information

Dog bark collars are one of the most popular ways to stop your dog from barking, but are they effective, and more importantly, are they safe for your dog? If you're here, you most likely have a dog that is barking a lot, and you're interested in finding the most effective ways of stopping the habit once and for all.

To start with, dog bark collars are actually very effective. The safety risk comes from low quality collars that deliver too much of a shock to the dog. Some people consider bark collars to be inhumane and painful, but the right collars don't actually cause the dog any pain, just enough discomfort to let him know that doing what he's doing (barking) is not going to be very fun. It's the same concept as giving your dog a light swat on the nose when he does something wrong. It doesn't hurt the dog, but it signals that he's not behaving correctly. Mothers do the same thing to their cubs in the wild, and sometimes they will even bite the young pup who's misbehaving, which causes more pain than a dog collar would ever cause.

There are other ways to train your dog not to bark, but the problem is that training needs to be delivered consistently for it to be effective. No matter how much time you spend with your dog, you are not going to be there every second of the day, so if anything your dog will learn that it's not okay to bark, but only when you're around. When you're not there to deliver punishment, anything goes. This is a bad mentality to put into your dog, but normal barking training techniques do this exact thing. By using dog bark collars, you send the message that it's never okay to bark for trivial reasons.

Of course, the other argument against using bark collars is that they train the dog to never bark, even if there's a threat present. The answer to this is deciding what you are using your dog for in the first place. If you got your pooch with the sole intention of using him as a guard dog, then a bark collar is going to be a little bit counter productive. However, if your dog is simply a pet for the children, barking is something that is going to have to be addressed.

So how do you know what kind of bark collar you need to purchase? There are a wide variety of collars on the market, available both at pet stores and online stores, and the prices may be as cheap as $30 or as expensive as $150. Is there much of a difference between the quality of the different costs? In the end, there is a difference. Inexpensive dog bark collars often use a citronella spray to get a dog to stop barking. This is effective for a while, but eventually the scent builds up and is around all the time. Higher quality dog collars use a static system that is more effective.
