List of Large Dog Breeds

The following is a list of large dog breeds, all arranged in alphabetical order. Large dogs are one of the most ideal pets for anybody, whether you're living in an apartment or a house. A lot of people are under the impression that large dogs aren't well suited to apartment living because of their size, but the reality is much different. Large Dog Breeds have a slower metabolism than their Small Dog Breed cousins, and because of this they tend to have much less energy. Therefore, they won't run around as much, and they don't make quite as much of a nuisance of themselves.

As long as you supply your dog with enough room for him to comfortably lie down and sleep, he will have no problem adjusting to a smaller living quarters. Of course, it's still important to get Regular Exercise For Your Dog every day because even though they won't run around in the house, they still need to get their exercise to remain healthy and fit. Exercise is also important because nearly every dog on this list of large dog breeds is going to be especially prone to joint and back problems, mostly due to the extra weight they have to carry around every day. Be sure you're familiar with the basic Dog First Aid techniques so that you can get some immediate care on any wounds or sprains while you get in contact with your vet.

Another thing to remember is that training is important while the dog is still at a young age. The problem with Big Dog Breeds is not that they're aggressive, but that they sometimes don't know their own strength. Great Danes may be excellent around children, but if untrained they could still jump up on a child, which can cause serious harm. That's why you need to weed out the behaviors like sitting up and play biting while they're still puppies. It's going to be hard to deal with a 200 lb dog once he reaches his full size. Other than that, the Biggest Dog Breeds are generally very amiable and friendly, and will make excellent pets.
