Kennel Cough Symptoms Information

Kennel cough symptoms are easily recognizable, leaving no doubt as to the nature of the infection that's ravaging your dog's upper respiratory tract. In reality, kennel cough itself is not life threatening or especially dangerous in any way, but it does present a really uncomfortable situation for both the dog and his owner.

The dog has to deal with constant coughing, lack of energy, sneezing, running eyes and nose, and a general feeling of lethargy. The owner has to spend a few weeks of sleepless nights as the dog hacks and coughs all night long without letting up. If you've ever had a dog with kennel cough before, you probably dread the coughing more than any of the other kennel cough symptoms, and with good reason.

Luckily, there are easy Home Remedies for Kennel Cough to reduce the coughing and give both you and your four legged companion some peace and respite. Before you start to use any home remedies though, have a word with your vet first about the possibility that your dog may react negatively to the Kennel Cough Treatment. None of the Kennel Cough Remedies listed in this article are known to have any side effects, but at the same time every case and every individual dog is different, so it pays to be absolutely sure before you start giving your dog something he's not used to.

Unless your dog has an extremely rare food intolerance that renders him allergic to lemons, this home cure for kennel cough symptoms shouldn't create any problems. The combination of lemon and honey has been used for hundreds of years to treat common colds and respiratory ailments, and surprisingly enough it works just as well on dogs as it does on humans. Honey soothes a throat that is sore from constant coughing, and lemon contains huge amounts of vitamin C, which is precisely what your dog's immune system needs to get back on its feet after a vicious attack from bacteria or a virus. Combining these two makes them both taste better and delivers a one-two punch to whatever is attacking your dog.

The best way to prepare honey and lemon for your dog is to mix equal amounts of lemon and honey, about a teaspoon of each, in a large quantity of water. If you don't use enough water and make it too concentrated your dog won't want to drink it. It should be more like slightly lemon-scented water and less like lemonade. A good amount is about a gallon of water.

You can keep it in your fridge in an old milk jug or lemonade pitcher, and just give your dog a bowlful every time you need to fill up his water bowl. Some dogs will still be unsure about drinking it, and if that's the case there's nothing wrong with crumbling up a small dog biscuit in the water to mask the taste of the lemon. You should see positive results in less than an hour, and the infection should be gone in less than a week.
