You and your dog will both be glad you did.

I need your help.

I have a page on the website that is for my readers to tell their dog story. My hope was to have people tell their story so it might help someone else with the same problem. But lately there has not been any activity on this page. Could you please look at this page and contribute something if you can.

Thank You

Dealing with Pet Odors & Hair.

Christmas is just around the corner. That means it's time to prepare your home for holiday company. This is especially important when you have pets because there are a few special things you have to consider.

    1. Clean up pet hair.
Let's face it. To get rid of stubborn stuck-on pet hair, you have to clean like crazy. If you have a pet, you know how frustrating pet hair can be. It's on the floor, the furniture ... and before you know it, it will be all over your guests' clothes!

  • Vacuum
  • Vacuum the floors, bedding and furniture - and don't forget to vacuum the car. Pet hair can be difficult to remove because it "clings" to fabrics, rugs and upholstery. Bissell makes an awesome set of attachments specifically designed for cleaning up pet hair, and they fit all major brand vacuum cleaners. It's called the Bissell Pet Pack Universal Accessory Kit. It has special rubber "fingers" and rotary brushes that work really well, and it's very inexpensive.

  • Grooming
  • Regular grooming can help cut down on shedding. My favorite deShedding tool is called FURminator. It can reduce shedding by as much as 90 percent! Less shedding from your dog means less dog hair in your home, and this tool really makes a difference.

Another great grooming tool is the Bissell Yowza. This universal vacuum attachment has grooming "teeth" at the end so it can brush your dog and pull the loose hair right into the vacuum (instead of all over your clothes and floor).

      2. Remove Stains.
Pet stains on carpeting and furniture can be a real embarrassment. But we found a product that gets the stains out - even if they've been there for a while. Award winning Fizzion Stain and Odor Remover works on ALL pet stains, as well as protein-based stains like red wine, coffee and chocolate.

  • Remove Odors in Your Home.
  • Use a good odor product on problem areas so odors are removed, not just covered up temporarily. Our favorite odor product is Zero Odor. It works enzymatically to neutralize odor molecules so they can no longer produce odor. This stuff really works. We haven't found anything like it.

  • Remove Odors on Your Dog
  • . Nootie Shampoo & Daily Spritz comes in 5 amazing fragrances that are so awesome, you'd use them yourself. Choose from Japanese Cherry Blossom, Warm Vanilla Cookie, Sweet Pea and Vanilla, Cucumber Mellon, and Coconut Lime Verbena. The shampoo comes with a daily spritz that will keep your dog smelling fresh, clean and wonderful long after bath day.

Start cleaning now. Take it one room at a time. Make sure you deal with all those special problem areas, and don't forget to clean your DOG, too. Your home will be fresh and "holiday clean" before you know it.

    Until next time,

P.S. To help keep your home "pet hair free", don't forget to clean your dog's bedding, too. Make sure to wash bedding regularly to remove dog hair.

    Tips to Save YOU money...

    1. Trimming your dog's nails and grooming his or her fur at home saves money spent on professional groomers.

    2. Practice good dental hygiene. Daily brushing of your dog's teeth has significant returns.

    3. Don't skip vaccinations or flea and tick prevention . Vaccines protect pets from painful and tragic diseases such as rabies, and fleas and ticks carry harmful diseases such as the plague that may also be spread to people in contact with pets.

    4. Buy fewer toys , and trick pets into thinking those toys are new, time and time again.

    5. Be creative with ways to make toys more interactive. Consider buying Buster Cubes or Kong toys for dogs to give them more stimulation while they eat or enjoy treats.

I hope these tips help your budget and most importantly the health and happiness of your dog.

One additional tip on the list is to consider pet insurance. It is one that I firmly believe in as well. For those on a budget, it can really allow you to do the best for your dog when you need it most.

Pet insurance dramatically reduces the costs of large veterinary bills, ranging from emergency care after an accident and cancer treatment to preventative check-ups and care including vaccinations.
