Pug Chihuahua Mix

A Pug Chihuahua Mix is considered a designer hybrid dog.

They have nicknames such as Chug and Pughuahua. The Pug Chihuahua is fifty percent Chihuahua and fifty percent Pug. When it comes to characteristics of a Pug Chihuahua breed it varies.

They can get their characteristics from either the Chihuahua breed or the Pug breed. Their temperament is usually good and there are no recorded severe behavioral issues so far.

The Pug Chihuahua mix is considered one of the most loyal companions and also trustworthy. For the most part Pug Chihuahua dogs are good with children but do need to be supervised for the children’s safety also for the dog. Since they are small they are more prone to getting hurt by rough play.

They’re very friendly, smart and do not bark excessive unlike the Chihuahua breed. They can be trained very easily as long as there is a consistent obedience training session daily.

In terms of weight the Pug Chihuahua mix is anywhere from 12 to 20 pounds. Due to the fact that this mix is small, they don’t take very well to cold weather, due to the fact that Chihuahuas don’t either.

Their size usually takes after the Pug’s size. Their muzzle is longer than the Pug breeds muzzle and takes after the Chihuahua breed. The tail is curly just like the Pug breed.

The colors of the Pug Chihuahua mix vary from tan, cream, brown, black, merle, grey, and tri color. The Pug Chihuahua coat can shed but it is not problematic. Daily Care For Your Dog they should be brushed on a regular basis.

Nail clipping and teeth should also be on a regular basis and can be done by the owner or professionally. The most common dental disease for the Pug Chihuahua mix dog is Periodontal. In fact at least 80 percent of Pug Chihuahuas suffer from this disease.

The Pug Chihuahua breed can suffer from over heating from strenuous exercise, so a cool environment when it is hot outdoors is ideal.

A Pug Chihuahua Puppy are common to get Kennel Cough. Kennel Cough is an infection that develops bronchial tubes, which can have your Pug Chihuahua puppy hacking, and a hoarse sounding cough.

This may sound like the puppy’s lungs are clogged. Typically the infection will resolve on its own and if unsure if your Pug Chihuahua puppy is coughing or choking you can take him or her to the vet. They’re procedures you can take if you believe your Pug Chihuahua puppy is having a severe coughing session.

What you can do is softly rub your puppy’s throat and then gently cover his nose. This will force the puppy to breath through his mouth.

When walking your Pug Chihuahua dog use a harness instead of a collar, this will help prevent coughing sessions. This hybrid breed can also suffer from allergic reactions to food, plants, insects, and pollen. To identify if your puppy has an allergic reaction look for swollen areas such as the face and body.

Look for rashes on skin and rapid heartbeats. The temperature of your puppy will be elevated and you will notice irregular bowel movements, and vomiting consistently.

The last sign to look for is swollenness of the throat this can be threatening and when this you should take your puppy to the vet immediately. Overall Pug Chihuahua mix dogs are friendly lovable companions. But really take in consideration the frequent vet visits.
