Physical Appearance of the different types of Chihuahuas

Chihuahuas are known famously as The Apple Head or Deer Head.

The apple head Chihuahuas which in most cases are known as a standard type of Chihuahua, has a dome of a skull that is broader then their jaw structure and a slight depression. At the time of birth their skull is filled up slowly in the first few months of development.

Also like human babies they do have a soft spot on the top of the skull. The fore head of this type of Chihuahua approximately rises 90 degrees off the muzzle, giving the head an apple shape. Also the eyes are usually round and protruding.

The deer head type of Chihuahua does not fall into the category of a standard type. They have a sloped forehead, with elegant, slim and slender deer like paws and legs. This gives them the appearance of a deer. This is how this particular type of Chihuahua has gotten the name deer head.

Also Chihuahuas are classified into categories of short haired and longhaired. These types of Chihuahua are only different in terms of their fur but, most believe that longhaired Chihuahuas are more reserved then short haired Chihuahuas.

Also when it comes to physical appearance, they can be classified according to the color of their coats. The color of a standard type of Chihuahua is fawn but there are many colors such as black, blue, cream, chocolate and so on. Chihuahuas also have different patterns such as brindle, spots, masks, merles and even various tan points on their coat.

Temperament of the different types of Chihuahuas

In terms of temperament, they are generally considered possessive, over protective and yappy but very loving companions. They are put in categories of Dominant, Submissive, and Normal.

Usually the most common category they are put in is dominant. Its best to get a type of Chihuahua that best matches your personality or it can be difficult in getting along with them.

Always do research on breeders and get your Chihuahua from a responsible, trustworthy and knowledgeable breeder. Also in choosing your companion, you need to check if it has bright, round, protruding eyes, and a clean nose, ears, teeth, gums, paw and coat.

These signs will determine if the breeder has given you a healthy Chihuahua Puppy or a sick puppy. It should be very playful in waking hours and sleep soundly. Make sure that the puppy is at least 8 weeks old when buying and very playful with full of energy.

Chihuahuas can be mans best friend and a perfect match for couples or someone that is living alone. Over all they are very good pets and companions, and a great addition to any family.
